On September 5 – 11, 2005, representatives of Oxford Youth Dance Company (Great Britain) – Cecilia Macfarlane, the choreographer, and Roland Carline, a dancer, - worked in Perm on a joint project.
Oxford Youth Dance Company toured in Perm in March, 2004. It was at that time when Mrs. Macfarlane called Perm a dancing city and initiated discussion of a possible joint project. In October 2005 a new version of Leonard Bernstein’ Mass will be performed in Oxford with participation of hundreds of people: orchestra musicians, singers and dancers from several European countries. Mrs. Macfarlane, the director of the performance, has selected 8 Perm dancers for the performance – 4 students of Perm Regional College of Arts and Culture and 4 members of the DRIVE show-group. For the Perm dancers to understand the idea of the performance better, Cecilia Macfarlane and Roly Carline held everyday rehearsals with them in Perm Municipal Palace of Culture. It is important to note that all dances of the performance are based on improvisation and choreographed by dancers themselves. Apart from rehearsals the guests from Oxford talked a lot with Perm choreographers, conducted master classes for young dancers of and met Perm officials.
